Since that time the company has built an excellent reputation in the field of Air Traffic Control and aviation software simulation systems and solutions. Micro Nav has more than 70 customers in over 35 countries around the world. Micro Nav's systems are used to train Air Traffic Controllers at some of the busiest airports in the world. The Company offices are located in Seabourne Road, Southbourne and are only a few minutes walk from Pokesdown train station.

A Systems Tester is required to join our award-winning company and a world leader in the delivery of simulation and training solutions for Air Traffic Control operations.

You will perform testing and configuration procedures on our software systems to ensure all errors are identified and corrected before release.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

- To read all the documents and understand what needs to be tested

- To prepare Test documentation i.e. Test Specifications, Test Plans, Acceptance Test Specifications

- Based on the information procured in the above step decide how it is to be tested

- Develop test cases and prioritise testing activities

- Execute all the test cases, report and record defects, define severity and priority for each defect

- Be responsible for defining and executing regression testing

- To show by testing that requirements are met

- To comply with Configuration Management requirements, including the version control system

- To comply with requirements of the company Quality Management System

- To represent the company during Site Acceptance Testing

- To represent the company during Factory Acceptance Testing

- To configure internal test systems

- To configure end-user systems as directed by the relevant manager

- To help System Delivery with installation activities when required

- Ensure deadlines are met or notify any potential shortcomings that may impact upon the deadline

 

Skills and Experience:

- Minimum of 2 years’ testing experience

- Knowledge of ATC environment would be a distinct advantage

- Knowledge in automation, i.e Python

- Good IT skills

- Broad understanding of Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office products

- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to liaise with a variety of stakeholders;

- Organisational skills with the capability of working towards tight deadlines

- Taking ownership of issues and ensuring the problems are resolved

- Proactive in checking, understanding and planning work, requires minimal guidance

- Able to grasp new concepts quickly and efficiently

- Ability to negative test

- Working knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle

- Experience of working within an AGILE environment

- The ability to switch between tasks

- Be able to work under pressure to ensure deadlines are met

Salary: £45,000 /year

We are looking to recruit a Software Team Leader to join our growing team.

The purpose of the role is to develop software and supporting documentation according to the requirements of both internal and external customer, using a team of Software Engineers to achieve this task where appropriate.

Key duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Modify the company’s products to fulfil the requirements allocated as per the company’s procedures.
  • Assess assigned work packages to identify the changes required and the best way to implement them.
  • Provide a plan to implement requirements and be able to organise a team to meet the plan.
  • Test the software produced to verify that any changes fulfil the requirements of the work package and that no other areas of the system have been detrimentally impacted by the changes.
  • Review code, task estimates, designs, solutions etc produced by others, according to the company’s guidelines and your expert judgement.
  • Drive code reviews.
  • Produce or review high level designs & high-level solutions for other team members.
  • Communicate effectively with other team members, other departments, and management.
  • Communicate effectively with customers where required.
  • Consider and suggest ways to help the company improve its procedures and processes.
  • Be capable of organising (including task deadlines & task slippage), mentoring, reviewing, and approving other team members’ work.
  • Gather, analyse and produce requirements both at a functional and software level.
  • Analyse reported software issues, either internally or from customers.
  • Appraise Senior Software Engineers and Software Engineers according to the company’s guidelines.
  • Provide site support, installation and technical training for customers.

 

The technical requirements we are looking for:

  • Experience of Microsoft Visual Studio C#, Borland C++ Builder, Agile, Scrum, Python, Automated Testing, Unit Testing and Air Traffic Control would be a distinct advantage.
  • Competent in the use of 1 or more Integrated Development Environments.
  • Understand version control and version control software.
  • Familiarity with the Windows family of operating systems.

The education and experience we are looking for:

  • Considerable proven experience in software development and team management at an appropriate level.
  • Degree qualified or equivalent in Software Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience of producing software as part of a team.
  • Experience of the full software development life-cycle.
  • Experience of a varied technical base.
  • Experience of supervising other staff

Overview

Placement duration: Year-long

Working as an integral member of the IT department to provide support to internal systems and key business projects, alongside all levels of the business to provide support and solutions.

The placement role takes an active part in maintaining and provisioning computers, infrastructure, servers and software. Providing end-user support is also a part of the role including helpdesk and user administration. This role requires the person to have a pro-active approach with a good mind for analysing and troubleshooting, along with a keen interest in the technology and IT field.

Your role in IT

  • Supporting end-users with hardware and software helpdesk issues
  • Configuring new hardware and software solutions internally and for projects
  • Network configuration, communication infrastructure and virtualisation management
  • Server management with Windows server, managing Windows Operating Systems
  • Troubleshooting and repairing computer hardware
  • Providing expertise to all departments within the company
  • Researching and implementing new solutions to the benefit of the company
  • Get to grips with the specific processes, methods and challenges throughout the company

Requirements

  • An understanding of the technologies, techniques and principles listed above is advantageous, however not fully required.
  • Must be studying a 4-year sandwich degree course in Computing or a similar field
  • An understanding of Microsoft 365 cloud products, Windows and common utilities
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Methodical solution finding skills
  • Ability to organise work and manage time well
  • Motivation to learn and maintain knowledge on the latest technology

We have experience in ATC operations, systems design, software production, ATC training and simulator design and development. The core capabilities of the company are the provision of specialist ATC services; the development of software for ATC and aviation systems; and the production of high-performance simulators for development and training applications both civil and military.

Placement students will be working in C++ and the full development lifecycle on a MS Windows platform. From assessing required changes, estimating timescales, analysing, designing and testing new software to overseeing version control, you will enjoy a high degree of autonomy and responsibility.

Requirements: Candidates should currently be on an undergraduate Computer Science / Software Engineering (or related) degree and have experience with or willingness to learn C++.
