Micro Nav is a private company that was established in Bournemouth in 1988. Since that time, the company has built an excellent reputation in the field of air traffic control and aviation software simulation systems and solutions. Micro Nav has more than 70 customers in over 35 countries around the world. Micro Nav's systems are used to train air traffic controllers at some of the busiest airports in the world. The company offices are located in Seabourne Road, Southbourne and are only a few minutes' walk from Pokesdown train station.

Accountable to the Senior Sales Manager, for identifying and winning new business in the defined key geographic market.  The role requires the development of existing customers, winning of planned opportunities and future business opportunities within the defined geography. You will be accountable for the opportunity management and for customer relationship management across the defined geography including the use of direct and indirect channels.  Additionally, a sales plan and capture strategy to gain market share needs to be developed and communicated for approval and executed.


  •       The opportunity management of nominated strategic geography.
  •       Customer relations management across existing Micro Nav contracts within defined geography.
  •       Identification of new business opportunities with existing and new customers/clients.
  •       Developing and implementing campaign strategies that lead to the capture of new opportunities.
  •       Nurturing relationships with existing customers of Micro Nav products, with particular attention to early identification of customers’ future needs, building their confidence and trust in Micro Nav such that they embrace a partnering approach to contract management, and readily accept Micro Nav as a trusted advisor on developing solutions to future needs.
  •       Opportunity Management ensuring adherence to Micro Nav Sales & Marketing Policy and Procedures.
  •       Provide input to the Micro Nav 5-year plan (FYP) to help define “must win” opportunities and campaigns, as well as identifying gaps in capability and barriers to entry for competitors.
  •       Interaction with the Marketing function and Simulation Product Manager to ensure the marketing plan and product roadmap is consistent with the sales plan.
  •       Maintain CRM for all customers and opportunities within strategic geographic region weekly.
  •       Manage target price to win activities for all forecasted opportunities within defined geographic region.
  •       Manage the full sales lifecycle from enquiry to contract award for defined geographic region.
  •       Development of sales plan and strategy for key geographic region taking account of low cost competitors, teaming arrangements and regional clients.
  •       Assistance to the Senior Sales Manager for the production of the monthly forecast and annual budgets.
  •       Lead the weekly Sales Review of defined geographic market.
  •       Accountable for the order book within defined geographic region.
  •    Responsible for closing orders in accordance to the Micro Nav Sales process.

Educational Vocational Qualifications:

  •     Applicable tertiary qualifications highly desirable.
  •     Knowledge and use of Miller Heiman, Shipley or equivalent Sales best practice desirable. 


  • Proven track record in business development and closing orders.
  • Strong capability in winning and renewing contracts in the defined key geographic region.
  • Strong capability in developing and sustaining long and strong customer relationships.
  • Experience of dealing with Government Department including good understanding of their procurement processes.
  • Experience of working in international environments.
  • Strong understanding of Anti-Bribery and Corruption policy and its adherence in managing regional clients.


  • Delivery of the 12-month order intake book on time to meet the sales plan
  • Winning forecasted orders, or winning alternative orders where forecasted orders have not been successful
  • Support to the wider business in delivering sales.
  • Timely production of the inputs to support the monthly forecasts, 5YP and annual budget processes.
  • Improving year-on-year performance.
  • Assist Senior Sales Manager to maintain high team morale.

Display Systems is a very exciting and rewarding area within Micro Nav. We utilise the latest display technologies to design and deploy award-winning immersive display systems, up to full 360 degrees, simulating the view from an airport control tower.

The Display Systems Engineer will assist the Display Systems Manager throughout the project life cycle. Our market is worldwide, so there is an element of travel involved in this role. For the right candidate, there is a likelihood of career progression, leading into other parts of the product life cycle and other areas of the company.

Skills and Experience

  • Qualified to degree level or HND in a relevant Engineering discipline
  • At least 3 years' industry experience
  • Keen interest to work with high-performance graphics and projection technology
  • All-round Engineering skills; able to document and communicate solutions in a clear and methodical way
  • Strong analytical skills, including risk analysis and mitigation
  • Electrical/electronic engineering experience
  • Practical skills, willing to get hands on with prototype construction and final installation
  • Liaising with suppliers, sub-contractors, consultants
  • Excellent documentation and IT skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Working to deadlines within a multi-discipline team
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively
  • Willing and able to travel and work abroad. Occasionally for up to 3-week periods

To create accurate 3D models and peripheral data assets (airfield lighting panels, HTML weather information pages, communication panels and associated audio routing files) to agreed project deadlines and budget.

 Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Creating low-polygon 3D airport models using Micro Nav's Fast Airport Builder.
  • Modelling and UV mapping of low-polygon buildings, vehicles, aircraft and characters using Autodesk 3ds Max. (Aircraft are typically 10,000 polygons or less, and buildings range from 100  to 4,000 polygons)
  • Modelling and UV mapping of aircraft and vehicles to multiple levels of detail.
  • Texturing buildings, vehicles, aircraft and characters.
  • Importing buildings, vehicles, aircraft and characters into the Imagine image generator.
  • Manipulating imagery using Adobe Photoshop and Substance Designer/Painter.
  • Committing 3D assets to the appropriate subversion repository.
  • Referencing provided model imagery in the model creation process.
  • Peer verification against the Product Description Document of airport, aircraft, vehicle and other 3D models.
  • To comply with the requirements of the company Quality Management System.
  • Creating an airfield ground environment using Micro Nav proprietary software.
  • Creating communications panels used by trainee controllers and pseudo pilots within the simulator. Panels are created using Micro Nav proprietary software.
  • Creating lighting panels that control the airfield lighting within the 3D model of the airfield. Panels are created using Micro Nav proprietary software.
  • Creating HTML weather information pages that provide meteorological information to trainee controllers. Pages are created using Dreamweaver or other HTML editing application.

Technical Requirements

  • Experienced in Autodesk 3ds Max (2013 or later preferred).
  • Experienced in Adobe Photoshop (CS5 or later preferred).
  • Experienced with Adobe Substance Designer and Painter.
  • Experienced with Dreamweaver or any other HTML editor application.
  • Knowledge of Physically based rendering (PBR).
  • Experience of Blender (desirable, but not essential).

Education and Experience


  • Relevant degree-level qualification, or 2 years minimum experience as a 3D Artist.
  • Good time management and planning skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites to support installation, configuration and acceptance of the simulator.


  • Experience of dealing with internal departments and personnel at all levels.
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and in a team.
  • An interest in aviation.
