Specialist Simulation & Training Systems for Aviation

BEST User Group, 10 - 12 May 2011

16 May 2011 BEST User Group, 10 - 12 May 2011

Last week we held our BEST User Group meeting in Amsterdam, Holland with a special visit to The Netherlands Air Force base in Nieuw Milligen.

24 users from 10 organisations took part in this year's conference. Attendees came from: Royal Netherlands Air Force, NATS London Heathrow Airport, Thales Frances, Entry Point North (EPN) Sweden, Naviair Denmark, PANSA Poland, Dubai Air Navigation Services Dubai, skyguide Switzerland, Liverpool Airport and Anadolu University.

As is traditional we had a number of short presentations by our users about their organisation, their facilities and their use of the BEST simulator. This year was no exception with interesting presentations given by skyguide, PANSA, London Heathrow, Anadolu University, EPN and of course our host The Royal Netherlands Air Force who we visited on a day trip from Amsterdam.

Their introduction to their base was followed by an interesting tour of their facilities, including their 360 degree 3D BEST tower simulator which is located in a 'tower cab', Radar room and Pseudo pilot room.

Following an update on the latest BEST projects and MNL's customer satisfaction survey, Samantha Fry gave a presentation on the development of CORE BEST (aka BoB, Best of BEST). This covered the release schedule and an insight into the new features that will be made available to support customers should they adopt CORE BEST for their systems.

On the last day we ran group sessions on the uses made of simulators and future requirements. These interactive discussions provided MNL useful feedback on customer needs and wishes. Samantha Fry is collating the results of these discussions for consideration by the BEST Product Management Group within their product development plan.

Breaks during the sessions as well as lunch & dinners were used for users to get to know us and each other, as well as to exchange experiences and information.

Our last day group event was a tour through the Heineken Experience, a self guided tour of the old brewery including the company's history, beer production, marketing and of course some tasting.

We would like to thank The Royal Netherlands Air Force for hosting us on one of the days and giving us a privileged insight into their operations and training facilities.

We look forward to seeing everyone again, as well as welcoming new customers to the next BEST User Group which will be held in 2012 in sunny Bournemouth, date to be advised.
