Saab awards Air Traffic Control Tower Simulator contract to Micro Nav Limited

03 September 2018 Saab awards Air Traffic Control Tower Simulator contract to Micro Nav Limited

Saab has been selected by ANWS to integrate a simulation capability with Saab Integrated ATC Suite (I-ATS) which is currently installed at Taipei Taoyuan Airport.

Saab has contracted Micro Nav Limited (Micro Nav) to provide the 360° 3D Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower simulator for Taiwan Air Navigation and Weather Services (ANWS) including hardware, software and training.

This solution will provide the capability to perform ATC tower controller training on the I-ATS controller working positions, while presenting the BEST out the window tower view.  BEST provides simulated traffic, while enabling pseudo pilots the ability to control aircraft or ground vehicles.

The BEST tower simulator due to be installed at Taipei Taoyuan Airport is an advanced stimulation system and immersive validation environment and training platform. Comprised of the latest Micro Nav Visual Display System, with its Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) screen, and award-winning Automatic Display Alignment System (ADAS), with split mode display operations and enhanced viewing capability, to complete the 360° 3D ATC tower environment. The BEST tower simulator for Taipei Taoyuan Airport includes BEST Link interface management positions for stimulation of multiple circuits, plus BEST Tower, BEST 3D and BEST 3D Create.

Stephen Young, Asia Pacific Sales Manager for Micro Nav said, “Micro Nav is extremely pleased with this contract award from Saab to deploy its BEST tower solution to Taiwan. The contract represents further endorsement of the Micro Nav BEST single solution product plus a stimulated environment, which will further improve training and safety for the Taiwan ANWS. The award is further expansion for Micro Nav in the Asia Pacific region and a first collaboration for Micro Nav and Saab, using the Integrated ATC Suite.”

Winner of the Queen’s Award for Innovation 2016
Queens -Award -for -Enterprise -Innovation -2016-Emblem -squareMicro Nav received the Innovation Award for its Automatic Display Alignment System (ADAS) used in 3D air traffic control simulators and training systems. These simulators rely on the use of multiple projectors to present a simulated view that would be seen from a control tower at an airport. Historically, setting up and maintaining the calibration of multiple projector arrays has been achieved manually by skilled specialist engineers.

BEST is the ATC training and simulation solution from Micro Nav. BEST stands for Beginning to End for Simulation and Training. BEST is a single solution product covering all training requirements from ab-initio to TRUCE.

In August 2012, Micro Nav joined the Quadrant Group of companies, adding world-class Air Traffic Control simulation systems to the Quadrant Flight Simulation portfolio.

About Quadrant:

Established in 1994, the Quadrant Group is collectively active in flight training services and flight simulation relocations, updates, products, manufacturing and maintenance.
