Simulator Training for Aircraft Marshallers

The Micro Nav Aircraft Marshalling Trainer (AMT) simulator provides a safe, versatile, and dynamic 'hands-on' learning environment for training aircraft marshalling.

Improving the training of marshalling personnel raises safety, and reduces accidents. It also saves damage to valuable aircraft and infrastructure on the airport apron while reducing the costs of flight delays. The AMT has been designed to deliver training outcomes safely. Through practice in different virtual scenarios, trainee marshallers gain essential skills and familiarity with procedures that transfer quickly to their demanding working environment.

Airport MarshallerTraining Benefits

Real-time simulation is proven in aviation as a method of choice for training personnel in a low risk environment and at much lower costs than instruction on-the-job in real operational situations.

The benefits of the AMT include:

  • Trainee marshallers learn skills and procedures in safety
  • Standardised training
  • Objective assessment of performance to ICAO standards
  • Training covers time of day (day, night, dawn, dusk)
  • Training covers adverse weather conditions
  • Emergency and unusual situations can be covered
  • Familiarisation with new aircraft, procedures and locations
  • Time spent training in the live operational environment is reduced
  • Training disruption to airside operations is reduced

Training Approach

The AMT simulator facilitates training for competencies that are in addition to basic airside operator skills. Efficient and economic marshalling training can be delivered to trainees through real-time immersion in a compelling 3D airport simulation, with realistic aircraft, vehicles, weather, ground markings, signs and lighting.

A comprehensive airside marshaller training programme may include the following:

  1. Admin System - to help manage training programmes and airside operation permits/licensing (for both management, instructors and marshallers)
  2. Self-teach Materials - including CBL/WBL and interactive media (well-researched, creative educational materials)
  3. Traditional Teaching Methods - including 'chalk-n-talk' and other classroom (group) teaching activities
  4. Simulation - 'experiential' marshalling training and testing of competency
  5. 'Real-world' Airside Experience - including 'buddy' experience in the live airside operational environment

The AMT constitutes a critical component in a comprehensive marshaller training programme facilitating standardised and objective competency-based training and testing.
