For eight weeks this Spring, Julia's House Children's Hospices has transformed Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole into an artistic wonderland with 40 giant and 60 medium-sized mermaid tail sculptures.
This art adventure directly contributes to the raising of vital funds for seriously ill local children and their families.
The choice of a mermaid tail design holds special significance, reflecting the Mermaid Suite at Julia's House's Dorset hospice, where families can spend precious time with their child during end-of-life care.
By scanning this tail, you just played a part in supporting that.
For Micro Nav, a Southbourne-based technology company developing Air Traffic Control simulators for customers worldwide, we had no hesitation in sponsoring the tail trail.
Our association with Julia's House began in 2011, when our co-founder, Mike Male, purchased 'Chalky' the Lion during the auction for the popular 'Pride in Bournemouth' lion trail. Mike chose to donate the sculpture back to Julia's House, where it remains a beloved feature in their garden and a creative outlet for children at the hospice.
We're honoured to be supporting Julia's House and the vital services they provide to local families once again.
When choosing a tail design to sponsor, we wanted our choice to be reflective of the business as a whole. So we presented the team with our options and held a vote. The winning design of that vote was a perfect blend of creativity and technical inspiration, and the artist for that design was Morgan Guillery.
At just 14 years old, Morgan has already established himself as a remarkable artist, becoming the youngest artist to take part in the Julia's House Big Dog Art trail in Swindon at the age of 12. We couldn't wait to see Morgan's vision for the Tail trail come to life. His ability to blend artistic expression with technical elements made his design a natural choice for Micro Nav, and our team was thrilled to support this young talent while contributing to such a meaningful cause.
What made Morgan's involvement special was how perfectly it aligned with Micro Nav's values. Earlier this year, we welcomed Morgan to our Southbourne offices where he experienced our air traffic control simulation technology firsthand, bridging his dual passions for art and engineering. This collaboration embodies what we stand for: nurturing young talent, supporting our community, and celebrating the intersection of creativity and technical innovation.
